Ductless Minisplit Systems

Some of our biggest sellers are the Fujitsu Ductless Mini Split systems. These systems are small, flexible and great for homes without a duct work system. They can be found most commonly in older homes with a boiler and radiator, where running ductwork would create a big construction project.

What are ductless mini splits?
Mini splits are split into two main components, an outdoor compressor and an indoor handling unit, like a central air system. The conduit, home to the power cable, refrigerant tubing and other items, links the outdoor and indoor units through a small hole.

Why choose a split air system?
If you want an affordable alternative to central air, then you should consider a ductless mini split. These units are quiet and efficient, as the compressor sits outside. The lack of ductwork means the typical 30% loss of energy associated with ducts is retained.

Mini splits are often easier to install than other a/c types. Manufacturers, like Fujitsu, provide a variety of lengths to connect conduits, and it’s possible to place the compressor as far as 50 feet away from the indoor evaporator. They also offer more flexibility in interior design, as the handlers can be suspended from a ceiling, flush onto a drop ceiling or hung on a wall.

How much does a split air system cost?
The cost varies from contractor to contractor. Mini splits aren't like traditional window air conditioning units where you can do it yourself, and installation cost depends on who does the work. On average, mini splits can cost $500 to $4,000, depending on the unit’s size and other amenities.
